DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINALS (CAMP ROCK 2008)

Rating: A

Introduction

I haven't seen this movie since the first time it came out. The weirdest thing is that I remember almost every part of it. I swear music in a human brain is concrete, and the things you learn in school are liquid because it just flows right out! The movie about a rock star version of Cinderella is a CLASSIC. It wasn't the most famous Disney movie of all time, and that's why it's so underrated. I love the character development and the music aspect of it all!! Music is my life, and when a movie is dedicated to only music, I about lose my crap. Not to mention the Jonas brothers were in it when they were fetuses. I remember when the singing style was super breathy and harsh because hey, ROCKSTARS! They've got that Britney Spears nasally sounds in almost every word they sing. I've actually been to an overnight singing camp, and it was probably the best expense of my life. The moment you get there, you already know that everyone is like you. They love music. Need I say more?? They also had a talent show that I've participated in every year, and ALL the campers are supportive in everything you do; it's like another family.

Character(s)

Caitlyn and Mitchie’s mom has always been my favorite characters of this amazing movie. They're the most chill and real people throughout the story. At first, I didn't like Caitlyn because she was like "told ya so" every 2 seconds, but then I realized she was doing it because she cared. What a friendship, right?! Also, her mom is super supportive of her. No matter what Mitchie does, she's always accepting of it and wants to help her!! She's also a boss Cook. Did you see her desserts? Those looked scrumdiddlyumptious! I got so hungry watching this movie because the food looks delicious!! On a side note, I wish they focused more on the whole Jonas brother's family to focus on their dynamic. I started to feel bad for Kevin and Nick for never being in the spotlight (especially Kevin… I’m sorry Kevin).

Fun facts

  1. The audition consisted of dancing, acting, singing, and chemistry among the actors to see who would fit well together. Go, Demi and Joe!

  2. The cast would have jam sessions behind the scenes and liked to jam out to Spice Girls and Fergie.

  3. Joe didn't have any dance experience before filming Camp Rock. He learns quick!

  4. In 2008, Camp Rock had 8.9 million viewers and became the most-watched movie on Disney Channel.

  5. Demi admitted that during Mitchie and Shane's one-on-one scene by the lake, she fell in love with him in real life. That’s so cute!! Too bad they didn’t last.

Take away

It's crazy to think that Disney has made basically every pop star now. Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, the Jonas brothers, Sabrina carpenter, and so many freaking more!! I actually got a call back from Disney to be the main character in one of their shows, but I "didn't look young enough." I was a 14-year old auditioning for a 12-year-old, what do you expect! My favorite part is when Mitchie makes fun of Tess in the little cabin place where they're jamming out. I understand Tess has her own issues to work out with her mom, but that doesn't mean she gets to project her issues on everyone else. That was a real turning point in the movie because it showed that Mitch was loyal to Caitlyn and not Tess (thank god!). The real takeaway of this movie is to stay true to you. It doesn't matter what other people will think of you! As long as you're content with yourself and love yourself, that's the true beauty in life. Mitchie tried too hard to fit in by lying about herself, and it didn’t get her anywhere! Despite what people might think, owning your true colors will make people want to follow in your footsteps. That’s what being a leader also means. Uplifting others and helping them find their own way in life is what is most important. I loved this movie, and it will always be in my heart + soul. Rock n roll!!
