Will The Saints Go Marching Into Super Bowl LII?

April 26, 2017

After the signing of Adrian Peterson, "Who Dat' Nation" is ready to see improvement from the dismal 7-9 record the team delivered last season. Adding AP to the already explosive quarterback Drew Brees will bolster their offensive production, and the team has three picks in the first two rounds of this year's draft, including the 11th pick overall.

Seven out of Saints nine losses last season came by less than six points, and let's not forget they had to play division rival Atlanta Falcons twice. Outside of the Saints divisional games last season, their year was tainted by losses to the Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, and Denver Broncos; all of which combined to go 53-27.

Last season, offense wasn't the problem for the Saints; defense was. The offensive side of the ball posted 29.3 points per game and led the league with 426 yards per game. Meanwhile, the defense gave up 28.4 points per game and 375.4 yards per game. If the team can get two defensive superstars in the first round of the draft to help with the passing and rushing defense, the team could find itself fighting yet again to win the NFC South and return to it's greatness of victory in Super Bowl XLIV.

In order for the Saints to win this year's Super Bowl they will need to make it to the playoffs in the first place. With an easier out of division schedule, the Saints could win more than 10 games this year. Depending on how good the Falcons play this year, that will be good enough to either win the NFC South or make it into the playoffs as a wild card team. Once in the playoffs, the Saints can look forward to having to beat either two or three of the following teams- the Falcons, Seahawks, Cowboys, Giants, Packers, or Lions. After that get ready to play the Patriots, Raiders, Steelers or maybe even the Chiefs to win Super Bowl LII.
