(The Guardian) At least 28 have been killed and another 60 injured in an explosion in Ankara, which is the capital of Turkey. Early reports are saying that the source of the explosion was a car bomb.

(FOX) More evidence that China is ramping up its military presence in the South China Sea has surface after the country deployed a surface-to-air missile system to one of the contested islands. Woody Island is also claimed by Taiwan and Vietnam. The system, known as HQ-9, is capable of launching an attack of 125 miles and poses a threat to any airplanes or boats close by, whether civilian or military. President Obama is set to meet with ten Southeast Asia leaders who are concerned about China’s recent activity. The countries include Indonesia, Malaysia, the Phillippines, Singapore, Thailand, Bruneil, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

(NBC) The tech giant, Apple, is defying orders by refusing to assist the FBI. A California judge ordered the company to help the FBI hack into the phone owned by one of the San Bernardino shooters. Syed Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik, who were supporters of ISIS, killed 14 people in December before being killed by police in a shootout. Apple is refusing because they say a jack of the phone would require them to build a backdoor to the device, which could potentially put all other Apple devices in danger if someone were to access that information. FBI Director James Comey says the investigation is extremely important and that this roadblack is troublesome.

(NBC) Nathan Barksdale, who inspired many characters on the popular show The Wire, was a drug kingpin in Baltimore in the 1980s who ran a heroin-dealing operation. Barksdale passed away while serving his sentence at the age of 54. While incarcerated, Barksdale had been working in the program “Safe Street”, which is an anti-violence program run by the Health Department. Barksdale’s cause of death has not been released.
