When you hear the word bully what do you think? The schoolyard loudmouth? The middle school wrestler? The truth is the bully might be right in front of you, and you don’t even know it. We grow up in a world hungry for power. In any natural ecosystem, there will always be some at the top. In some cases using corrupt and deceitful methods to get there.
Our founding fathers took deliberate steps to guard the American Government from bully-like structures (monopolies). In the private sector of business and bureaucracy, we see a different story. Now, I’m not saying bureaucracy in business is bad, in fact, it’s quite good, providing efficacy and effectiveness in a hierarchical structure is fine for purposes of BUSINESS. We also must recognize that with bureaucracy comes a small level of corruption. It’s just going to happen.
But, what happens when it goes beyond that? What happens when all sectors of an entire industry (hint entertainment industry) are so corrupt they universally conform to the same ideas?
Hollywood is a system where bullies thrive. An environment cultivated on ideas around self-proclaimed high virtue and superior morality, an ideological box is placed. When any actor dares step outside the image of the egalitarian justice fighter, they are kicked out, shamed and socially condemned.
A day before writing this I interviewed #1 Billboard recording artist Joy Villa. She touched on a profound issue in Hollywood that shocked me. Everyone operates out of fear. Fear of not being at the top, fear of appearance and fear of judgment.
That’s the motive. Hollywood lacks diversity of thought, and diversity of opinion out of FEAR.
If you want to hear the rest of my conclusion and thoughts on Hollywood, you are going to have to check out my interview with Joy Villa below!
