This past June was one of the busiest and oddest NBA offseason that NBA fans could imagine. The Golden State Warriors are already predicted to winning their conference and the finals for the third straight year. Who can match the Warriors furious defense and lights out shooting offensive play? Well, this offseason teams like the Houston Rockets, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Boston Celtics and the new hungry team of the league the Minnesota Timberwolves have all revamped their line-ups and rosters to match the defending champions the Warriors.
Despite the Warriors, being the number one seed and favorites to win the championship, there are several other exciting new storylines the NBA has to offer this season. So let's dive inside and see my top 2 predictions for the NBA standings in the east and west.
Let's start with the eastern conference shall we, the Cleveland Cavaliers are hoping to get back to the NBA finals, despite trading Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics for Isaiah Thomas and other key members, so Irving can be the "big man on campus" in Boston. I believe that the Cavaliers will be the number one seed in the east. The reason why is because the Cavs still have the best player in the world with LeBron James running the floor, with a few new faces on the roster such as Isaiah Thomas who will be sideline till January due to a hip injury.
Boston also traded Jae Crowder and managed to snag Derrick Rose from Knicks and a future draft pick as well, also the Cavs have reunited LeBron with his best friend all-star Dwayne Wade from the Bulls and they still have all-star Kevin Love. The Cavs are favorited to win the eastern conference, because with the best player in the game on your side who knows how to be a floor general, a leader, unselfish and the most skilled player in the game today, known as LeBron James you build that self-confidence and believe that if you have number 23 in the game, have no fear despite losing Kyrie Irving to the Celtics this offseason. I predict the Cavs will be (57-23). But will it be enough to take on the undefeated champs the Golden State Warriors this season without Kyrie Irving? Well just have to see!
The second seed in the eastern conference is the Boston Celtics, this season was a major change for the Celtics having trading away Isaiah Thomas the man who suffered a lose in his family who played for them when times were tough, the man who lost a tooth for them and a man who was injured during the series gave it his all who ended up being traded to the Cave for Kyrie Irving Also, trading away major defensive players like Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley were huge shocks for Celtics fans. But in return the Celtics aquired big name players like Gordon Haywood from the Jazz, Marcus Morris and rookie Jayson Tatum. I think it was a good trade but I rather see Kyrie in a Cave jersey myself!I predict the Celtics will be (54-30).
In the western conference the number one seed will be the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors will bring back majority of their championship team along with more 3-point shooters like Nick "Swaggy P" Young from the Lakers, Omari Casspi and promising young talent in Patrick McCaw and Jordan Bell. The Warriors will be even more loaded then before and this will be Kevin Durant second year playing with them, and Draymond Green and Klay Thomas are coming off hot seasons ,with Green being the defensive player of the year and Thomas being one of the top 3-point shooters in the game. There's no excuse that the Warriors should have trouble making a three-peat heading to the finals and winning the championship again. I predict the Warriors will be (66-17).
The second seed in the western conference is a tough one, the west has many new faces going to teams to "try" to dethrone the Warriors. But can any of these new looked teams have a chance against Golden State, will just have to see. Before I give you my prediction on who I think will be the second seed, let me tell you about some of the new looked teams that NBA fans will have an exciting time watching.
The Houston Rockets acquired all-star Chris Paul from the Los Angles Clippers, and some defensive weapons in Luc Mbah a Moute and PJ Tucker. With keeping sixth man Eric Gordon who was lights out from 3-point territory. The Rockets have a shot at competing against the Warriors and maybe slowing them down on defense. I predict the Rockets will be (58-27).
Russell Westbrook broke out for an incredible triple-double threat this past season, leading OKC to the NBA playoffs despite losing Kevin Durant last season to the Warriors. The Oklahoma City Thunder made some noise from landing all-star Paul George from the Pacers and all-star Carmelo Anthony from the Knicks was a huge plot twist in this offseason. This big three could be enough to match the Warriors intensity since it will release stress from reigning MVP Russell Westbrook this season. I predict the Thunder will be (56-29).
Out of the two newly revamped team I feel that the Houston Rockets will claim the second seed in the western conference. The Rockets are fully stacked Chris Paul and James Harden will be able to play together, despite each player demanding the ball all the time it will release each player stress and will help free up someone shot. Also, the Rockets took a step with their defense by adding PJ Tucker and Luc Mbah a Moute on the perimeter. Houston has a chance to change up their line up to match the Warriors small-ball tactics. Or will they? There you have it my NBA predictions for the 2017-2018 season, The Warriors are favored to win once again, due to their high tensity offense and relentless defense. An the Cave will retake the number one seed in the east. Overall, there are exciting new teams to watch this season, the NBA will be different, but will it be for better or worse with all these "new" super teams? I am predicting it will be the Cleveland Cavaliers vs the Golden State Warriors once again come June.
