Anthony Weiner gets 21 months in prison for sexting case

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner was sentenced 21 months in federal prison Monday for sexting with a minor.

Along with the 21 months in prison, Weiner was then sentenced to three years of supervised release.

In an attempt to sway the sentence, Weiner stated he has been going through intense therapy.

U.S. District Judge Denise Cote acknowledged those efforts but needed to use his case to prevent others like it in the future.

"Because of the defendant's notoriety, there is intense interest in this prosecution. This is an opportunity to make a statement that can protect other minors," she said.

Weiner wept in response when the sentence was announced, "I have a disease, but I have no excuses."
