Babymetal originated from Tokyo, Japan in 2010, with the intention to be an all-female idol group, a band with the sole purpose of producing pop music icons and a large following. Common in the Asian music industry, some artists are remembered for their iconic presence more than the quality of their songs, i.e. PSY’s “Gangnam Style”. Babymetal consists of teen metal vocalists, Moa Kikuchi (“Moametal”), Suzuka Nakamoto, (“Su-metal”), and Yui Mizuno (“Yuimetal”). The group is spin-off of progressive metal, pop and idol genres and along with synchronized dance-moves and matching red tutus, the trio is back by metal instrumentation from the Kami Band. The band name, more or less, infers the younger, pop and Japanese infusion of metal, making them a unique collection of both heavy metal and on-stage performances.
The metal community is not only for biker dudes or adolescence teens ready to rebel against their parents out of angst and frustration. Babymetal brings a much wider demographic into the community that hasn’t been heavily exposed to metal music. Take a watch and get crazy excited over this adorable and tenacious metal group! Babymetal will be coming through the Evergreen state on their Metal Resistance world tour, July 12th at the Showbox SoDo venue in Seattle. Listen to THE Game Show with Bumper Jumper Thursday from 8-10pm on 88.1 The ‘Burg for your chance to win a pair of tickets to see them!
