As the final whistle blew on the 2015 CWU football season, senior long-snapper Jason Diffee’s career wasn’t ending…it was merely beginning a new chapter.

Diffee, a Bakersfield, California product, will be entering into the 2016 NFL draft; one of four seniors from last year’s Wildcat roster that will be, as well as Anthony Beaver, Cedrique Cheney, and Miles Carelock.

As a long snapper, Diffee plays a position on the field that entails a unique route to the NFL, a route without the notoriety and draft-value as most other positions entering the draft. But where the position of long-snapper might lack status going into the draft and preseason, there are roster spots open currently in the NFL. Central Washington’s Jason Diffee will be hunting for one of those coveted roster spots in the upcoming months.

“It’s tough, but I can’t worry about the other snappers. All I can do is work on my craft and become the best snapper I can be.”

This offseason, Diffee has been continuing to work on that craft and showcasing his abilities at NFL combines in San Diego, Arizona, and Las Vegas. Diffee also had his pro day on March 8th which took place at Nicholson Pavilion and Tomlinson Stadium.

Off the field, Diffee is a history major with a minor in coaching. After being at Central Washington for three years and playing a successful collegiate career, Diffee will still be hanging around the Wildcat gridiron as an assistant coach, until his opportunity to play pro football is received.

When asked about the new presence of Diffee on the Wildcat coaching staff, head coach Ian Shoemaker said, “With his experience, he brings a lot to the table. Being a leader of the special teams for the past couple years, it’s a great thing having a guy like that back.”

With the NFL draft coming at the end of the month, April 28-30, Diffee will be awaiting his opportunity to live his lifelong dream of playing in the NFL.

“It’s been an emotional roller coaster. I have learned a lot and met some great people throughout this process. It definitely wears you down but at the end of the day it is completely worth it!” –Jason Diffee
