NEWS CENTRAL HEADLINES – MARCH 4 2016

(FOX) There are growing tensions in the South China Sea where China has been increasing its presence around disputed lands and clogging up shipping lanes. China has made artificial islands and three of those islands have aircraft runways, where they have been shipping missile defense systems. The U.S. Navy sent ships as a message to China that they will continue to patrol those areas and ensure free trade is allowed in the eastern region. Japan has sent cruisers and destroyers as well. These islands in the sea are claimed by multiple countries, including the Philippines, Vietnam Malaysia, Taiwan and others. Leaders in these countries have expressed concern over the growing military presence of China in the area.

(CNN) A construction worker found a knife at the OJ Simpson and turned it over to an officer in the 90s. The knife used in the double homicide, for which OJ stood trial in 1995 and was found not guilty, was never found. The officer who the construction worker turned the life over to is now retired and police are still investigating why he is just now turning the knife in. Early speculation is that he thought the case was closed. Any evidence such as blood and hair could have significantly deteriorated by now. Simpson cannot be tried again for the crime, however, he was booked on six counts of robbery, assault, burglary, and conspiracy in connection with a Las Vegas hotel room robbery in 2007. Simpson was also found guilty on twelve counts, including kidnapping and armed robbery, in 2007. He was sentenced to at least 33 years in jail with a parole eligibility after nine years.

(NBC) On Thursday, North Korea launched short range projectiles into the sea. The country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, has ordered his military to be on standby for nuclear strikes at any time. North Korea has pushed its propaganda against the U.S. and South Korea, stating that we are trying to overthrow their leadership. As of now, whether North Korea has nuclear weapons is unclear, but they made an announcement recently on their state TV that they completed a successful nuclear test. If true, North Korea would be the world’s 8th nuclear power. The U.S., which maintains constant surveillance over North Korea, estimates Kim may have as many as 10 to 16 nuclear weapons.
