Pusha T finished 2015 strong with his second studio album King Push-Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude. This album has ten tracks and is roughly thirty three minutes long which makes listening easy. King Push-Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude has great features ranging from The Dream, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, Kehlani, Jill Scott, Beanie Sigel and Ab-Liva. Even with all of these features, this album still remains authentic and Pusha T’s presence is felt throughout all thirty three minutes. The features are mostly dominant in the choruses and hooks while Pusha T focuses on the verses with his versatile flow and his lyrical metaphors. The production on the album is impeccable, especially when you have Timbaland, Q Tip, Kanye West, Metro Boomin, J. Cole, and Boi-1da producing for you.
The first single “Untouchable” is produced by Timbaland and Milli Beatz samples Notorious B.I.G. song “Think Big”. Pusha T opens the verse with “yuugh, I drops every blue moon, to separate myself from you kings of the YouTube”. This essentially means that for Pusha T, quality is better than quantity. Pusha T acknowledges the fact that there are many YouTube rappers out there and he wont to be compared with them. In the second verse, he does acknowledge that he is the president of G.O.O.D. Music whose CEO is Kanye West with the line “The president of G.O.O.D. Music has been announced”. Pusha T and Kanye West visually and artistically are like twins because the way they want their projects to be perceived.
On the track “M.F.T.R”, which stands for More Famous Than Rich, features The Dream. Pusha T talks about how people these days are so fake on social media by trying to claim that they live a certain lifestyle that is not necessarily true. For instance, when he says “the illusion of money we don’t believe in, you ask me, Tyga looking like a genius”. Pusha explains the lyric as Tyga made a smart move when he left Cash Money Records because they are notorious for not paying their artists what they deserve. Thus, Tyga would rather be more famous than rich and not have people carry the illusion that he is rich based on the roster of the label he is acquainted with.
Pusha T really found himself in a great space with this album. From the production, to his subject matter, to his guest features, and his lyrical ability, it is evident that Kanye made the right choice by making Pusha T the president of G.O.O.D. Music as the talent and the vision is apparent in his new album King Push-Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude.
Kanye West announced on twitter recently that his long anticipated album Swish will be released on February 11th of this year. Is this the year of G.O.O.D. Music?
