Influenced by 90’s hip-hop as well as Prince and Marvin Gaye, Seattle hip-hop artist Sol has successfully married hip-hop vocals with a pop friendly sound. He first started getting attention with the three editions of his Dear Friends mixtapes and his most recent full length album Yours Truly dropped in 2012. Yours Truly spent time at #1 on iTunes US Hip-Hop chart and was #4 worldwide at its peak. September of this year, Sol followed Yours Truly’s Success with his EP titled Eyes Open. The ten track EP includes tracks such as hopeful, stay tough anthem “Tomorrow” and other beat strong songs such as bonus track “Dope.”
Also known as Solzilla, Sol & the Zillas got a “Maine Stage” slot at the Sasquatch Festival at the Gorge in 2012. The rapper also had spot on the 2013 Bumbershoot bill. Now returned from a ten month worldwide tour, big things can be expected from Sol. With new influences, experiences and humbling moments, we can only continue to expect big things from this rapper on the rise.
In an interview with Corvallis Gazette Times Sol said this:
“I rap and I make hip-hop, but I try not to limit my influences. Since I was young I’ve always listened to all sorts of types of music…When I’m creating I try not to be confined by some preconception of what hip-hop should be about or what it should sound like. In doing that, I hope to create something that’s unique.”
Sol will be playing at Showbox at the Market on Nov. 27 and The ‘Burg is hooking it up today (11/15) between 1 and 3 p.m. Listen-in for a chance to see him live in Seattle!
