Hailing from Kansas City, Missouri; Aaron Yates, better known as Tech N9ne, found rap at a young age. Supposedly rapping his own name in order to remember how to spell it, Tech N9ne has always had a desire for music. Joining a rap group known as Black Mafia back in 1991, Tech N9ne has been in a multitude of different groups prior to beginning his solo career, his projects included: 57th Street Rogue Dog Villians, Nnutthowze, and The Regime.
Tech N9ne dropped his first solo album The Calm Before the Storm in 1999; but it wasn’t until 2002 that Tech N9ne received popular recognition for his album Absolute Power which debuted 79 on the Billboard 200. Tech’s work was truly recognized in 2008, when he reached one million record sales over the span of his individual career.
With the recent release of his 14th studio album, it goes without saying that Tech N9ne has found success within the rap community. When asked about his inspirations Tech N9ne gave a list of musician, in and outside of the rap community. Rap groups like N.W.A and Public Enemy stand beside rock groups such as Led Zeppelin and AC/DC on his list of influences. When asked as to why he had such an eclectic taste in music Tech N9ne replied: “I love beautiful music, beautiful music no matter what type.”
