Shows of Note – Female Fronted Awesome

It was only 2011 when Polica was founded, but the indie rock band out of Minneapolis, Minnesota has already received the praises of Bon Iver, NPR and others. Incorporating electronica and hip hop flavors into their music, Polica has successfully created a psychedelic indie sound.

Polica

Give You the Ghost is Polica’s debut album, released in 2011. The band has successfully followed their early success with the recent October release of Shulamith. The name Shulamith belongs to radical Canadian Feminist, Shulamith Firestone who was a founding member of various feminist groups including Redstockings and New York Radical Feminists. Female fronted Polica has devoted their second album to conveying a message of feminism that echoes Firestone’s message.

The album begins with what is perhaps the best song on the album “Chain My Name.” The song gets the listener ready for a record that is busier and more textured than polica’s previous work. We also recommend checking out “Trippin” and “Spilling Lines” off the Shulasmith album.

Polica will be performing in the Pacific Northwest Nov. 22 in Portland at the Wonder Ballroom and Nov. 23 in Seattle at Showbox at the Market. The ‘Burg will be giving away tickets to the Seattle show, today (11/11) between 1 and 3 p.m. and tomorrow (11/12) between 8 and 10 p.m. Tune-in for a chance to win!
