The band is known for their awesome live shows, and have a 4.6 out of 5 rating on Ticketmaster. The band claims that they make “silly music” and one of their career highlights was having Weird Al Yankovic parody “Lump,” into “Grump.” Front Man Chris Ballew had this to say about the honor in an interview with Noisetrade.com.
“…it is an incredible experience to see Weird Al pretend to be me! The best thing that’s come out of that is that we are still friends. He’s a great guy and a really good listener and storyteller.”
Weird Al would go on to direct a music video for PUSA and has guested at a few of PUSA’s live shows.
PUSA will be playing in the northwest Feb. 14 at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Feb. 15 at The Showbox in Seattle and Feb. 16 at The Triple Door in Seattle. The ‘Burg will be giving away tickets to The Showbox show so be sure to tune-in to The Wake-Up Call tomorrow (02/06) between 6 and 8 a.m. for a chance to win tickets!
Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, the duo that makes up the pop sensation Karmin started out as a simple YouTube act. The two did a cover of Chris Brown‘s “Look at Me Now” and became an instant viral hit. Now the two has millions of views on YouTube, (88,000,000 belonging to the “Look at Me Now” cover) due to their catchy original singles and impressive covers.
Before Karmin made it big on YouTube they were about to audition for The X-Factor. Luckily, their video went viral two days before the auditions and they were quickly signed to a label. The two give their thanks to YouTube and the way it is changing the music industry. Now Karmin is able to have more control over their content and careers then they would if The X-Factor had been the route they took.
The duo has released one full-length original album, Hello which dropped in May of 2012. Since, Karmin has released numerous singles, remixes and live works including their most recent single “I Want It All” which came out Jan. 28 of the this year. The swag-pop team, who also happen to be engaged, were planning to release their second album Pulses at the end of 2013. That release has been postponed and now the record is rumored to drop some time in the first quarter of 2014.
Karmin will be performing in the northwest Feb. 14 in Seattle at Neumos and Feb. 15 in Portland at the Roseland Theater. The ‘Burg has tickets to the Seattle show and we’re giving them away tomorrow morning (01/30) on The Wake-Up Call between 6 and 8 a.m. so be sure to tune-in for your chance to win!

No one knows that Tayler…Is a big fan of slam poetry and has received scholarships from competing in slam poetry contests. She even has published poetry!
Tayler Shaindlin fits right at home here at 88.1 The ‘Burg. Shes a girl with that special something. Always a happy face, shining eyes and a “lets do this” attitude we couldn’t be more pleased she was selected by her piers as November DJ of the month. A frequent volunteer at events with three shows of her own, Shaindlin is quite the busy body. Shouting at events ’til she has no voice, last minute appearances on the radio and twerking as ‘Burgfoot are no longer foreign to the college radio all-star.
Shaindlin started volunteering last January after attending a freshmen orientation session all about The ‘Burg. Looking for something new and cool to try, Shaindlin’s curiosity would turn her into one of the most-valued volunteers at the station. Shaindlin’s hard work really paid off this November because she was hired into a paid position as Reporter for the station. You can catch her edition of News Central, Fridays between noon and 1 p.m.
Quite diverse in her efforts, Shaindlin has hosted a hip-hop and indie rock show and will be co-hosting a Thursday/Friday morning show with DJ Dirty Snowball from 6 to 8 a.m. Congratulations to November DJ of the Month Tayler Shaindlin!
Bay area rapper Sage the Gemini is so fresh, it’s hard to find out much about him. With no website, no real bio on his Facebook page and nothing but a few pictures on Lastfm.com he may be hip-hop’s mystery man. You probably know him from the singles “Gas Pedal” and “Red Nose” but for now it’s unclear if Sage the Gemini is a one-hit wonder type or if he is a rising hip-hop star who will continue to rise in the ranks of music.
Sage the Gemini
Like so many artists, Sage’s journey wasn’t an easy one. With little support from family and friends he had self-taught himself how to create, mix and master beats. 2008 was the first anyone heard of him when he dropped his first online track “You Should Know” on MySpace which generated over 3 million views.
Sage is a member of The HBK Gang also known as The Heartbreak Gang. The HBK is a collective American Hip-hop and music production group out of Richmond, Calif. and the San Francisco Bay Area. Iamsu! Is also a member of the group and is the featured artist on Sage’s single “Gas Pedal.”
IAMSU! Born Sudan Ameer Williams, also found success on MySpace with titles such as “The Go-Gettaz.” IAMSU!’s legitimacy has been increased with his 2012 release of Suzy 6 Speed which featured artists like Juvenille, Wiz Khalifa and others.
Sage the Gemini and IAMSU! Are touring together and will perform at the Showbox at the Market in Seattle on December 1. Listen to the ‘Burg today between 3 and 6 p.m. for a chance to win tickets!
