College Radio Day Advisory Board Member Raising Funds For Cross-Country ‘College Radio Road Trip’ To Benefit At-Risk Radio Stations
This Saturday Nikki Marra, College Radio Day Advisory Board Member, will be launching out on a coast-to-coast road trip, from New Jersey to Washington State conducting interviews at various College Radio stations along the way, as content for an audio documentary for this year’s College Radio Day celebration. As more and more Colleges and Universities are selling or leasing their radio licenses to corporate entities, and we are losing College Radio stations as training grounds for students, it becomes more important for those who believe in College Radio to unify in supporting the cause. A GoFundMe.com account has been created to help aid in the cost of this trip that will ultimately help to raise sponsorship funds for vulnerable stations.
College Radio Day is planning an expansion for this year’s celebration with ambition to build a Fund to provide grants and scholarships to those students and stations in need. It is a vastly growing movement, that this year will be celebrated by hundreds of college radio stations across the globe on October 3rd. The College Radio Fund, which will grant students scholarships and at-risk stations the ability to stay ‘in business’ will have its official launch later this Summer.
The audio documentary will be made available to all College Radio stations participating in this year’s College Radio Day celebration. Materials will also be used as promotional material to assist in gaining sponsorships for the College Radio Fund.
